THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NIGHT & DAY…
… in more ways than one.So. My pal Brayden let me know last night that the other tug would be coming in the morning. And he told me the hour. And I rolled over and went back to sleep. I don’t function that early, and my camera does not function that early either.
So let me interrupt my train of thought to interject this. As some of you know I was (among other things) the in-house photographer at a certain zoo that is now closed. I often would walk through the zoo during the day and see people taking pictures I knew would not turn out and say “Here… turn around so the sun is facing your subject instead of behind it…”
Ever not listen to your own advice?
Yeah I didn’t either.
What was the first thing I did this morning when I woke up? I grabbed my phone and launched Marine Traffic to see if Bristol was still at anchorage. She was not. OCEAN A. SIMARD was rotating in the marina, FEDERAL BRISTOL was moored, and SALVAGE MONARCH seemed to be hanging out at the anchorage waiting for the wave-off that all was good and they could leave.
And you know that scene from the opening of the Flintstones where the foreman blows the whistle, the horns sound, and Fred takes off at the speed of sound? That was me at about 8 am this morning.
So I ran down to the harbour, found my new spot I had mapped out the night before, and started shooting pictures only to realize I was the biggest moron to ever draw breath and hold a camera. The sun was behind FEDERAL BRISTOL. It didn’t matter how much I cranked the exposure.So I went home and waited for the sun to move a little further west.
