Happy Cinqo de Mayo

Not every photo is a ship photo. And hey, it’s my site so I can post cows doing ballet if I want to.

Deacon (my assistant photographer) and I were out for his morning business and I took this shot on the Joseph Kolodzie Bike Path near the house and I was particularly pleased with the picture.

Don’t worry, Deacon appreciates the importance of a good leash. I just removed it in Pixelmator Photo. I can’t say enough good things about that app.

Deacon is getting ready for the big party this afternoon down at the Port of Oshawa. And THAT will involve ship pictures. 😁

Cobourg Harbour – CCGS CAPE RESCUE, A DREDGE AND…. CORMORANTS???

Cobourg Harbour – CCGS CAPE RESCUE, A DREDGE AND…. CORMORANTS???

So I had to go to Cobourg today to pick a few things up. I checked MarineTraffic before I left. It said there was a tugboat in the Cobourg Harbour so I picked up my camera on the way out the door. May as well kill two birds with one stone. I had no idea how many birds would actually be involved.

After conducting my other business, I waddled down to the marina and got these pictures of CCGS CAPE RESCUE and a dredge that looks more like one of those paddle wheelers on the Mississippi River.

Oh. And I also got some pictures of cormorants. Because they are my mother’s favourite bird.

Not.

Oshawa Harbour – FEDERAL WELLAND

Oshawa Harbour – FEDERAL WELLAND

Have you ever photographed a hot supermodel, and then you shot her twin sister and couldn’t tell them apart?

Yeah, I haven’t either.

Although there are differences between FEDERAL BRISTOL and FEDERAL WELLAND they sure aren’t visible to the naked eye. And with the “stowaway barrier” and the pier gate closed, it wasn’t easy to get a variety of angles when I left the long lens at home. (It’s still drying out from the other shoot.)

So alas this post will be a short one. I probably won’t even put it on Facebook. So those of you who visit will get bonus material. This won’t happen often. I am very deeply committed to the success of The Prescott Anchor. Maybe if I feel inspired later I will take the long lens down to the secret marina spot and try to get a full-body shot of her to add to the post.

Oshawa Harbour – OCEAN A. SIMARD, SALVAGE MONARCH, FEDERAL BRISTOL

Oshawa Harbour – OCEAN A. SIMARD, SALVAGE MONARCH, FEDERAL BRISTOL

For a man who loves ships, I hate water. And for the most part, my camera equipment does too. Maybe some day I will own something more waterproof, but for now I use what I have. Apologies for the droplets on the lens. I tried to keep it dry, but it was like a monsoon down there today.

Some of you with keen eyes may also notice that the bars of the pier appear altered or missing in some photos. That’s because I removed the lamp posts. 😂

Today was a double-header but I only stayed for the first half because of the aforementioned monsoon. I arrived seemingly right on time as OCEAN A. SIMARD was hooking up to the front of FEDERAL BRISTOL and SALVAGE MONARCH was diving in behind to pull the stern away from the pier.

FEDERAL WELLAND was waiting in the wings to be towed in after FEDERAL BRISTOL was out, but I needed coffee and warmth more than I needed pictures of FEDERAL WELLAND. That can wait until tomorrow when the weather is improved.
